The definition of a journey is traveling from one place to another. Usually a rather long trip. The passage or progress from one stage to another.
The journey from a daughter-in-law to mother-in-law is no exception. Even though I wrote, I Called Her Nan, it's still a journey of navigating my way through these relationships during the different stages of our lives. As a woman in my mid-fifties, I recently found myself needing to take a moment to sit on a bench during this season of my journey. I was pleasantly surprised to feel the peace that comes along with just stopping for a breath and making the decision to be still. To be filled with peace, gratefulness, and understanding that God created us uniquely for a purpose. However strange or different it may seem to others.
Throughout the Bible, there are so many stories that are just plain hard to believe, that God would take such drastic measures of people's choices, good and bad, to ultimately glorify Him. I know we can all relate to these moments in our own lives.
While I reread the poem written for my mother-in-law over twenty years ago, the bench stands out even more today! As I remember that God refers to our time here on earth as a breath, I'm using some of my imperfect breath to "rest, laugh, talk and share my hopes. It's reminding me of who I am, a daughter, wife, mother, Boppi (grandmother), and friend. My memories and love for others will never end"....as I prayerfully continue to grow on the journey set before me.
I Called Her Nan, which can be found on Amazon is available on Audio, Kindle, and paperback.
Have a great day!
Love,
Cathy
