Spa Like Moments

Who doesn't enjoy a day at the spa? Most likely we would appreciate just an hour at the spa! To lay in a dim room, and hear the sounds of water trickling, while soft music slows us down. To actually hear and feel ourselves breathe in a soft aroma that's floating through the air.

Soon hands are laid on our weary backs. An ahhhh sound is released inside our heads so loud it sounds like it came from our lips. Our backs, support, and help carry our babies. Our backs take the brunt of manual labor. Our backs carry the burdens that life sometimes gives us or the strength for exciting adventures!

The human touch is powerful and invigorating! I learned this so well while caring for my mother-in-law when she was sick. One day her skin was itching so badly from cancer, I got a warm wash cloth and gently rubbed it on her legs. Then I heard it...the ahhh flowing from her aching body to her lips. I knew then, what I could do to bring temporary relief to her discomfort. I brought more warm towels and laid them over her legs. Then covered her hands with them too. As I took the towel from each hand, I rubbed her fingers and the palm of her hands. Then I did her legs and feet. Time slowed down that afternoon as I listened to her breath and felt water trickling down my cheeks. At the time I couldn't tell if this was a sad moment or a beautiful moment. Looking back now, I'd call it, beautiful.

We are all capable of creating a Spa Like Moment of ahhh or peace for someone. Through a simple hug or a touch. It can be to celebrate an occasion, a token of gratitude, or to bring comfort by being still and quiet. Even if it's just holding someone's hand while they grieve or do something difficult. Recently I was on the receiving end of the ahhh moment, from my own son. He probably sees that time as sad, but one day how he remembers it will change.

Just another little thing I learned, from the woman, I Called Nan. Ahhh
