I have been told, that to write on the topic of daughters-in-law and mothers-in-law was brave, risky, important, and even sweet. I heard, "Weren't you afraid of offending someone? How long did it take? Aren't you worried that it won't sell? Think what would happen if your book was at every bridal shower and wedding venue!" Wow, now that's a thought!
There was such a mix of emotions, comments, and even suggestions on how to market my book, I Called Her Nan. It tells about my journey from being a daughter-in-law to becoming a mother-in-law. However, once women start to read this small white book with black writing and a simple yellow butterfly on the cover, they soon find themselves on their own path. For some, it will be the beginning of their journey, or many may find themselves in the middle and have already stepped into piles of stinky mistakes (if you know what I mean). Of course, there are those women who have been in their role for a while and find themselves wishing they knew about some of the obstacles sooner. That is the category I found myself in when the decision was made to write, I Called Her Nan.
However, concern started to slip into my thoughts knowing that I still have work to do on the relationships with my daughters-in-law in certain areas, depending on the circumstances. How would that look since I'm not perfect on the subject I was writing about? Would my book still be creditable if I don't always say or do the right thing once it's written? Would it be thrown in my face? I'm certain at times my choices or words may seem confusing, but I can not stress enough that you really never know what someone is going through. But since I do know that we are all, more than not perfect, I kept on writing!
Chapter 18 is titled, Grace, Mercy, and Peace. I'm writing this blog with the same heart as when the book was written... More than not perfect.
I Called Her Nan, which can be purchased through Amazon is available as a paperback, Kindle, and Audible (you can hear a sample of both of these). 10% of book sales go to Meals on Wheels in Chesapeake Va.
Here's a little funny: When I got to work today, one of my coworkers said, "Cathy! I had the most wonderful breakfast with my new mother-in-law. I learned so much about her. I remembered your book mentioned being intentional and taking a moment with her." My response was, "Great! Did you use the questions in the back of the book?" After a pause, she said, "No, I didn't know there were questions!" LOL
